Upon inspection of this cantilevered concrete and flat membrane awning , I discovered that the taper is incorrect and the front curb is not tall enough for sufficient splash guard and overtopping prevention.  This is a fairly unusual shape and size and a diamond pattern is recommended for maximum water management along with a built up curb at the front to act as a splashguard and prevent water from over topping when it is filling rapidly.  It is recommended that the customer hire someone to install underground drain pipe along front of building at flower bed to lower grade.

Ponding and Overtopping Water Problems

  1. 1
Bad TPO seam welds with buildup

Build up at the edge of a welded seam on a TPO roof membrane is a sure sign of bad welding. These will quickly turn into leaks if not immediately

    Ponding water over entryway

Here, you can see that water sits in this area with no hope of draining. The area is shaded and low, pitched improperly. Taper corrections and built up curb is recommended as well as adding drainagePonding water and low curb make for bad conditions for over topping the edge of the roof

  3. 3
    Insufficient taper

If tapered properly and with a built up curb, we can channel the water to both ends and into a scupper drain attached to a downspout. Recommended that drain pipe is added to this system to a lower gradeWith a higher curb and proper tapering, the water can be directed to this back corner and through a scupper drain into a downspout. It is recommended that the customer install drain pipe from downspout to lift end of the building at a lower grade
